Many of us simply don’t have the time to go grocery shopping and spend precious hours preparing meals each night. This is where Snap Kitchen steps in to help. All of its meals are cooked fresh before being shipped straight to your door. Meals arrive chilled and only take a few minutes to heat up in the microwave. Dishes can be broken down into keto, paleo, pescetarian, and vegetarian and you’ll have total freedom to choose across the full weekly menu.

What is SnapKitchen?

Snap Kitchen is an instant meal delivery service that bases its dishes around a range of healthy ingredients. Two plans are on offer here; you can choose to have either six or 12 meals delivered each week and every meal is enough for a single serving. The dishes have the added benefit of being tailored to assist weight loss, with each one coming in at under 500 calories.

Who Is Snap Kitchen Good For?

  • People that are pressed for time - You’ll be on board with Snap Kitchen if you’ve ever struggled to fit cooking into your daily schedule. The instant meals here will take the stress out of dinner time and let you get on with your busy day
  • Calorie-conscious people - With each meal coming in at under 500 calories, they make the perfect accompaniment to those on a weight-loss journey. While Snap Kitchen doesn’t operate a specific diet plan, it’s good to know these meals can help
  • Fans of traditional cooking - The ingredients here are simple and hearty, and you’ll find dishes that are designed to rekindle the taste of home. You’ll find plenty of roasts, bakes, BBQs, and meat dishes here that are wholesome and delicious. Plus, the menu rotates each week to keep you interested
  • Specialist dieters - While you might not find a full range of dishes to satisfy every special diet each week, you’ll find some interesting options to cover keto, pescetarians, and paleo. You can even filter the menu on seven different allergens to make sure your meals are safe. However, Snap Kitchen can’t guarantee its meals are 100% allergen-free, so sufferers might need to shop elsewhere

Who Isn’t Snap Kitchen Good For?

  • Foodies - If you’re looking for exotic spices, dishes from across the globe, or innovative mixes of ingredients, this won’t be the service for you. Snap Kitchen keeps things simple and uses a limited number of ingredients. Foodies on the hunt for the next big thing will need to try a more niche platform
  • Large families - With orders being limited to either six or 12 single servings per week, it won’t be enough to cover large families. Plus, it’d be nice to see more flexible plans offered to cater to different needs
  • Vegans - Unfortunately, vegans are out of luck with the menu here and it’s rare to see a lot of vegan dishes make the cut. Luckily, there are numerous all-vegan platforms springing up all the time to help you out

How Snap Works?

Once you’ve chosen the six or 12 meals per week plan there’s not much more for you to do except wait for your food to arrive. Your first order should be with you a few days after your payment is processed and all you need to do is pop the dishes in the microwave. There are around 35 different meals on the menu, and options rotate each week.

Snap Kitchen Website and App

The website is bright and modern with everything you need to know about the service clearly marked out. You can head straight on over to the menu to see what kind of meals are on offer or go right to sign up. If you’d like, you can check out some feel-good community stories from previous Snap Kitchen customers or head over to the blog for some home cooking and nutrition tips.

An app is available for both Android and iOS and both have excellent reviews from customers. The apps have exactly the same functionality as your online account with the added bonus of being able to amend your orders on the go.

Creating an Account / Sign Up

Once you’ve entered your zip code and email address you’re all but done with the signup process. When creating an account you might notice a pickup option appear rather than delivery. Snap Kitchen offers this service in certain states where home delivery might not yet be available.

Snap Kitchen Meal Plans and Meal Selection Options

Meal plans couldn’t be simpler and you’ll find just two options:

·        Six meals per week

·        12 meals per week

With either option, you get free reign to choose what you’d like over the entire menu. We’d like to see a little more flexibility here, or the chance to increase our order, but this should be enough to cover singles and couples for the week.

Snap Kitchen Meal Types

Fans of wholesome and hearty cooking are in for a treat. The meals may be under 500 calories each, but they’re packed with ingredients designed to make you feel full. It’s largely a mix of old-school classics and Tex-Mex dishes, but you might find the odd international dish in there from time to time. Favorites from recent menus have included:

  • Hot honey chicken tenders
  • Korean BBQ meatballs
  • Miso-glazed salmon
  • Over-easy burger with sweet potato
  • Roasted chicken with winter vegetables
  • Three-Sisters chili
  • Turkey meatloaf
  • Beef enchilada bake
  • Banana pancakes and breakfast sausage
  • Almond crusted salmon

Choosing Snap Kitchen Recipes

You can filter the menu on:

  • Keto
  • Paleo
  • Pescatarian
  • Vegetarian
  • Whole30

However, there usually won’t be enough to sustain you every week if you want to eat these diets consistently, or at the very least you’ll start to notice a bit of repetition.

The following allergens are covered too:

  • Almonds
  • Cashews
  • Coconut
  • Egg
  • Milk
  • Salmon
  • Walnut

However, if you suffer from severe allergies we’d recommend a specialist service as there may still be trace amounts of allergens that remain.

How Much does Snap Kitchen Cost?

The two plans have a simple price structure per meal, although opting for 12 meals each works out significantly cheaper. Shipping is always free.

Servings / Recipes Per Week

    Cost

6 servings per week

Price per meal - $11.67

Total cost - $69.99 per week

12 servings per week

Price per meal - $9.58

Total cost - $114.99 per week

Diet Friendliness

The low-calorie meals on offer here can certainly help promote weight loss, but Snap Kitchen doesn’t make any guarantees. It’s not a diet specialist, nor does it have dieticians on hand like similar services, but if you’re managing your own plan and keeping an eye on your nutrition, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to succeed.

The platform offers a number of meals to cater to other specialist diets and allergies, but you won’t find enough variety to keep your interest long-term. If you’re a committed follower of the keto plan, a vegan, or a pescetarian, you should seek out a platform that caters specifically to your needs.

Add-ons

Add-ons are currently only available in certain states where Snap Kitchen fulfillment centers are available. Extras include items like snacks, additional groceries, breakfasts, and smoothies. These are quite limited at the moment and you’ll need to find out if your area is eligible by entering your zip code on sign up.

Snap Kitchen Customer Service

Customer service is fairly average at Snap Kitchen and you can only contact service agents via an online form or by submitting a ticket. Response times can vary and the provider doesn’t give any indication of how long it takes to resolve queries on average.

A comprehensive FAQ page is available that covers the vast majority of common issues and queries you might have, including deliveries, packaging, and amending orders.

Snap Kitchen Cancellation Policy

You can cancel your subscription at any time and won’t be charged as long as you do it before your deadline. Your card will be charged at 8 am the day before your next delivery is due. In order to stop your subscription without being charged, you’ll need to cancel the day before your card is charged by 11:59 pm CST. This is also the deadline for making any menu changes to your order.

Snap Kitchen Alternatives

If Snap Kitchen isn’t quite lighting your culinary fire, there are plenty of different meal kit services that offer a whole range of different diet options and menus.

Final Verdict

Snap Kitchen certainly takes the stress out of dinner time with its selection of healthy instant meals. We love the flexibility of the menu here too, and the way it caters to a number of different dietary requirements is a big plus. Being able to skip weeks and jump in and out of the subscription as needed allows customers to give the service a try and get some added veg in their diets without being locked into long-term contracts. It’s fairly reasonably priced when compared to other meal delivery services too.

However, with so much competition out there right now Snap Kitchen probably won’t cut it for more adventurous foodies. There just isn't enough variety or excitement in the meals to keep them interested long term and there are numerous other niche services waiting to take your custom.
